India had a rather disappointing start to their Rio Olympics campaign. There were two bright sparks for India though – Victory for the Men’s Hockey Team & rower Dattu Baban Bhokanal’s performance.
Off To A Good Start
The Indian Men’s Hockey team started their campaign with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Ireland.
Dattu Baban Bhokanal put in a tremendous performance and reached the quarter finals of the Men’s Single Sculls event.
The tennis court, however, did not yield any positive results. The men’s doubles partnership of Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes crashed out in their opening round.
The women’s doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombare also crashed out in their opening round.
At the shooting ranges, Ayonika Paul and Apurvi Chandela lost in the quarter finals of the women’s 10 meter air rifle event.
Medal hopeful Jitu Rai managed to finish eighth in the men’s 10 meter air pistol event.
In table tennis, Mouma Das lost in the first round of the women’s singles round. Achanta Sharath Kamal also lost his first round in the the men’s singles competition.
In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu could not complete any of her lifts in the 82 kg snatch event.
